Deathwatch Assemble!

In my previous post about stripping paint from plastics, I had alluded to the fact that I was going to be painting up my Deathwatch marines in the near future.

Well, that is going to have to wait a little while longer.  You see, though I had converted them up ages ago–the blog post was in 2009, but I menediont that they’d been sitting on the shelf years before then.  Anywho, before I went ahead and painted these up, I wanted to clean them up a little bit.

Granted, any work that I was doing was bound to be minor, but I fiddled around with the Space Wolf a bit (I tried out different heads, and then wound up pinning his arms), and noticed that the two heavy flamer marines both have heavy bolter backpacks.  Years ago I wound up procuring some multi-melta backpacks for this very purpose, but I’d never put them to use until now.  So, I wound up swapping those out (which involved bending around some very fiddly pieces of guitar string).

I also pondered whether I’d use the heavy flamers, and though the answer is likely no, I’m not sure what I’d replace them with, so I wound up keeping them, just the same.  I’m contemplating filling out the squad to 12 models so I can get some other options for heavy weapons in case I feel like it.

Anywho, while I was fiddling around, I managed to plead a friend for a Salamander shoulder pad (Which is really an Alpha Legion pad, but it looks suitably thematic when painted up right).  That way my flamer makes sense in the squad, and I can reuse the Crimson fist pad with another deathwatch option (not that I have enough deathwatch shoulderpads, mind you, but those too will come in time).

So, with these relatively minor conversions done, maybe I can finally start painting them?  I dunno about that–but at least I did make some hobby progress this week!
