After noodling around this afternoon, I “finished” modeling my beastmen squad for the IG army that I don’t own. Thumbnails of the completed models can be found below:
They’re made out of the beastmen boxed set with parts from the following boxed sets as well:
- Catachan Jungle Fighters (arms & guns)
- Cadian Guardsmen (canteens, ammo pouches, and a helmet)
- Space Marine Scouts (pouches & grenades)
- Space Marine Tactical Squad (chest piece)
- Kroot (gun slings, pouches, & grenades)
- Undead (ram horns & ghoul pouches)
- Good ol’ fashioned green stuff
I’ve already taken some flack from people who think that beastmen don’t belong in IG armies (as if exploiting a mutant race would somehow be beneath the noble Imperium). Of course, these are from people that either A) never played first edition, or B) forgotten that GW not only had rules for them long ago, but also made a few models as well. You can see the official models over that the Stuff of Legends website. The quote from GW’s fluff was “They are genetically fairly stable, and are considered to be a form of abhuman rather than an unpredictable mutation.” Hrmpf… who are you calling a beast?
Want to see more? Rooting around the internet, I stumbled upon another blog that contained some easy to modify, yet very effective beastmen conversions using almost exclusively Cadian bits:

Nice conversions there- the 24th would look down upon using such… creatures, but I’m sure that other, more… “enlightened” armies would welcome them.
Just make sure you get the commissar’s ok first, m’k? Wouldn’t want another commander’s brains all over the floor…

Very nice – I’ll be stealing the chestplate idea when I get back around to finishing my Beastmen (using Penal Legion rules for expendable infantry to support my Titans up close).
I used Catachan torsos and legs, cut off at the boots, with the hooves sticking out the bottom: http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r314/Gotthammer/40k/titan/BMpl1.jpg
Yeah, I saw your picture online, and was going to use it as inspiration for a 2nd squad. I didn’t see you had a blog to go with the pic though. Do you perchance have a good entry on these critters that I can link to? Your models look great.

I did a similar conversion some time back. I miss the old days of Imperial Beastmen!
